Veridian Village features a variety of green building and landscaping design features,
including bamboo floors, energy efficient windows, rain gardens and vegetated swales for managing water runoff. Veridian is being built to achieve or exceed a Silver rating on the National Association of Homebuilders Green Home Building Guidelines.
Veridian Village preserves more than thirty acres as conservation land. These conservation areas are home to wetlands, vernal pools, streams, and habitats. Ecologically sensitive portions of the site are signed, and in some places fenced, in order to encourage people to respect these delicate areas of our environment. Hampshire faculty, students, and homeowners may use the protected wetlands, to the extent allowed by law, as an extension of the classroom by going into the wetlands to study their ecology and to help remove invasive species.
Homeowners can volunteer at and buy locally grown organic vegetables through the Community Supported Agriculture programs at the Hampshire College Farm Center. |
